This afternoon Thursday 10th July 202, a high-level team from the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) led by Chamber President Dr. Erick Rutto conducted a member engagement visit to patron member Tropical Brands (Africa) Limited at their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Mwiki, Nairobi.

Accompanied by Acting CEO Mr. KK Mutai and Finance Director Mr. Ken Onditi, the KNCCI team was warmly received and taken on a tour of the facility, where they witnessed firsthand the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the production of high-quality, locally manufactured goods.

KNCCI was highly impressed by the world-class standards maintained at the plant and the diverse range of products being manufactured using natural and locally sourced raw materials. The visit highlighted Tropical Brands’ strong contribution to Kenya’s manufacturing sector and value addition along the agricultural value chain.

Tropical Brands Chairman, Mr. Linus Gitahi, shared the company’s ongoing efforts to expand its product portfolio, with a deliberate focus on using indigenous and natural ingredients. He noted that the use of products like goat milk, coconut oil, and pyrethrum has not only enhanced the quality of their offerings but has also revitalized agricultural production by creating sustained demand for these raw materials.

Mr. Gitahi highlighted that the revival of pyrethrum farming—driven by the company’s production of eco-friendly insecticides—has renewed interest in the crop among farmers, creating new income opportunities in rural communities. Similarly, the incorporation of goat milk and other organic ingredients into personal care products has sparked consumer interest in natural, locally made alternatives.

During the meeting, both teams held in-depth discussions on challenges affecting the manufacturing sector, with a key focus on over-taxation. Manufacturers, they noted, are currently burdened by numerous duties and levies at various stages of the production process, which undermines competitiveness. The Chamber pledged to intensify its advocacy efforts with relevant government agencies and regulatory bodies to ensure that local manufacturers receive the support they need to thrive.

Dr. Rutto reaffirmed KNCCI’s commitment to supporting its members and boosting the competitiveness of the Kenyan manufacturing sector. He assured Tropical Brands of the Chamber’s support in unlocking market access opportunities through KNCCI’s extensive local and regional networks.

The visit underscored the Chamber’s focus on strengthening member relationships, supporting local industry, and championing policies that enhance the growth of Kenyan enterprises. KNCCI continues to prioritize industry engagement visits as part of its broader mission to represent, promote, and protect the interests of Kenyan businesses.
