Chamber President Dr. Erick Ruto witnessed the official signing ceremony of a strategic partnership agreement between the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) and Vnlin (Guangzhou, China) at the G.P.O. Posta House Boardroom in Nairobi.
The landmark agency agreement positions PCK as the primary regional logistics hub and agent for East and Central Africa. It aims to automate cross-border e-commerce while systematically addressing long-standing industry bottlenecks, including delayed clearance, outdated processing facilities, slow customs procedures, and the lack of a mature cross-border regulatory framework.
Highlighting the opportunity ahead, Vnlin noted that Kenya currently lags behind continental peers in e-commerce performance recording $2.6B in transaction volume compared to South Africa’s $7.9B and Nigeria’s $6.1B. Dr Rutto said that Kenya’s private sector is fully prepared to invest, particularly in last-mile delivery operations, to ensure efficiency, reliability, and timeliness across the supply chain.
Infrastructure Modernization & Operational Impact
The partnership introduces a comprehensive modernization of Posta’s logistics capabilities, featuring:
- Digital Clearance Center & Custom Inspection Hub: Real-time processing for manifests, declarations, risk profiling, and continuous X-ray comparison.
- Smart Parcel Sorting Center: High-speed automated sorting lines capable of handling 1,800 shipments per hour and processing over 20,000 orders daily.
- Expanded Freight Capacity: Plans to charter three weekly 100-ton freighters operating bi-directionally across key trade corridors connecting China, Hong Kong, Dubai, and Nairobi.

- KNCCI Delegation: Led by Chamber President Dr. Erick Ruto, alongside National Director Cynthia Nyawira, KNCCI Nairobi Chapter Chairman Dr. James Mwaura, and Head of Trade Simon Ndung’u.
