Ukraine is the world largest producer of sunflower oil and ranks amongst the best in the world in software programming and development.
Yesterday afternoon a Ukranian delegation led by the First Deputy Speaker Hon Oleksandr KORNIYENKO ,MP,Member of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and H.E Andrii PRAVEDNYK ,Amb Ukraine to Kenya paid a courtesy call to the Chamber President Dr.Erick Rutto at the KNCCI headquarters.
The deliberations centered on strengthening of trade ,economic, B2B and B2G cooperation between Ukraine and Kenya with the head of the delegation Hon KORNIYENKO, giving assurances of more than adequate security in Kiev,with the increased investments in military security against the backdrop of war.
The Chamber President raised concern with the Trade deficit at $149.5M and spoke to the opportunities to increase trade and bridge the gap by increasing our volumes of exports and product lines noting Tea ,Tropical fruits,Tobacco &Cut flower accounts within the top five exports from Kenya 🇰🇪.
The areas of partnership and collaboration identified were :
▪︎Agribusiness – Sunflower &Wheat value chain ,availability of high-quality seeds that can withstand drought with Ukrainian companies ready to come to Kenya to explore and grow the opportunities in the sector value chains
▪︎IT – It has grown into the Hub of military tech & startups ,drone technology & production , and opportunities to partner on digital transformation &drone technologies.
▪︎Healthcare-opportunity for pharmaceutical joint ventures & and healthcare training
▪︎Green Energy – specifically curatea partnership on green hydrogen energy ,its extraction, transportation..
▪︎FDIs into Ukraine – to rebuild the country, an estimated $ 1 trillion is required ,they Country is open to joint investments & an adequate labor force.Kenya is seen as an ideal partner to provide the required workforce being an English speaking country
▪︎Business to Government delegation to Kiev with special support in security and preparation to be availed to explore the business opportunities.
▪︎Education opportunities for students, particularly in the fields of medical, engineering, and military technology.
Other members of the delegation were Mr.Andrii KANIUKA Advisor to the Deputy Speaker,Mr.Roman PYRIH,Counsellor of theN Embassy of Ukraine and KNCCI team National Director David Mbatiany,Chairman Tourism Committee Rev.William Owuyo,KNCCI CEO Patrick Nyangweso and technical teams from the secretariat.
