The National Treasury, in partnership with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), will roll out a nationwide capacity- building programme to train suppliers on the Electronic Government Procurement (e-GP) System across 28 counties starting next week 9th February, in a move aimed at strengthening
supplier participation in public procurement.

The e-GP system was officially rolled out for use by both National and County Governments on 1st July 2025. To date, over 33,000 suppliers have registered on the platform, with 348 tenders already opened and evaluated electronically. As Government accelerates the transition to digital procurement, the training programme seeks to address existing gaps in supplier awareness, technical capacity, and practical experience in navigating the system.

Speaking on the announcement on the collaboration between the National Treasury and KNCCI during KNCCI AGM yesterday, Cyrell Wagunda Odede, Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Investments and Assets Management, emphasized the central role of suppliers in the success of the e-GP system.

“The success of the e-Government Procurement system is dependent on active and informed supplier participation. While progress has been made, continuous training is necessary to ensure suppliers can register, bid, and manage contracts effectively within the new digital framework,” said PS Wagunda.

He noted that the partnership with KNCCI will enable the National Treasury to reach suppliers across the country through structured, in-person trainings that address real-time challenges and improve compliance.

Speaking at the same event KNCCI President Dr. Erick Rutto welcomed the collaboration, noting that the Chamber will leverage its national footprint to bridge the gap between government systems and private sector readiness.

“KNCCI is positioning itself as the bridge between government digital systems and supplier preparedness. Through this programme, we are ensuring that businesses especially MSMEs can compete fairly, transparently, and efficiently for government tenders,” said Dr. Rutto.

The programme aims to create awareness and build practical capacity among suppliers on the e-GP system. Key training modules will include: supplier registration, the e-bidding process, e-bid security guarantee management, e-contract management.
